The Company is pleased to announce that the Beauty World MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) project in Singapore has completed 1,000,000 man hours lost time injury (LTI) free. To commemorate this milestone, the project conducted its 9th Safety Standdown on 22 March 2013. The Safety Standdown took stock of all ongoing activities and involved the entire site in reviewing and communicating its JSEAs and presenting them during a stand-up presentation by each Team Leader. The company is pleased to announce that Keppel Merlimau II Cogen Civil and Marine project in Singapore has been successfully completed and has achieved in excess of 1,250,000 man hours LTI free. McConnell Dowell were initially awarded the phase A civil works to provide the complete civil infrastructure for one KA26-1 single shaft turbine with an output of 400 megawatts. Subsequently, McConnell Dowell were awarded phase B civil works which added another KA26-1 single shaft turbine and an additional 400 megawatt capacity. Almost a year after the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) were installed, the twin Metro tunnels on the Beauty World Project have now been completed. As the final pieces of the 1000 tonne boring machines are being dismantled and demobilised from site, it is a good time to reflect on our achievements. The range of geological conditions that these 6640mm diameter ‘monsters’ bored through was as impressive as it was challenging. The geology ranged from unweathered 200 MPa granites to completely disintegrated soils, including the hardest soil conditions of them all, ‘Mixed Face’. The Company is pleased to announce McConnell Dowell South East Asia Pte Ltd has been awarded its first environmental award by the Building and Construction Authority on 24 May 2012. The award recognises progressive builders who take the effort to address environmental and public concerns arising from construction works and serves to develop a more positive image of the industry over time in Singapore. The Singapore Parallel Train saw more work for McConnell Dowell on Jurong Island, Singapore and fantastic results continued to raise the reputation of McConnell Dowell. An extensive 5 kilometres of pipe racks were implemented to provide the critical infrastructure that connects the existing facility to the new expansion. McConnell Dowell was awarded the job for the Singapore Parallel Train in May of 2008 by ExxonMobil. The Helios Bulk Liquid Storage and Blending Facility job was completed ahead of time, and with its first-class safety performance, was awarded the “Singapore Safety and Health Award” in  2008. McConnell Dowell was awarded the mechanical and civil works contract in May of 2006 by Helios Terminals Corporation. The project is based on Jurong Island, Singapore which has been a happy hunting ground for the company over the last 30 years. McConnell Dowell constructed tank foundations, pipe racks, bund walls, valve and pump manifold, piping, loading arms, jetty topsides, all electrical and instrumentation, and other facilities including offices. 21 liquid storage tanks are included in the facility with a capacity of 448,000m3. The Company is pleased to advise that Vopak Asia Pte Ltd has awarded McConnell Dowell South East Asia Pte Ltd the design & construction contract of berths 6 & 7 at their Banyan facility, Jurong Island.
