The company is pleased to advise that the C916 Station at Beauty World and Tunnels project has achieved 1,500,000 Man Hours LTI Free. This is a very significant achievement for the project, especially considering the ongoing piling work in restricted work space areas. Despite these constraints, the safe execution of works has been managed extremely well by McConnell Dowell site personnel, and also our sub-contractors. The Company is pleased to advise that Built Environs has been awarded the contract to upgrade a heavily-used 1.5km section of South Road, Old Noarlunga, for the South Australian Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure (DTEI). The Built Environs engineering team will be upgrading two major signalised intersections, involving the movement of around 10,000m3 of earthworks and 22,000t of profiling and asphalt works. The Company is pleased to advise that McConnell Dowell, in joint venture with Downer EDI, have been confirmed as the preferred tenderer by the New Zealand Transport Agency's (NZTA) for the Christchurch Western Corridor Route Memorial Avenue Intersection upgrade. The project is to be delivered as an early contractor involvement (ECI) contract and forms part of the Christchurch Western Corridor route, connecting the northern and southern Canterbury areas with Christchurch International Airport. The Company is pleased to announce that VicRoads has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd the construction contract for the Breakwater Road Redevelopment project. Breakwater Road is an essential crossing of the Barwon River, carrying around 20,000 vehicles each day. The existing bridge is in a flood plain and when it rains heavily it has to be closed down, forcing traffic through the centre of Geelong and causing delays for drivers. There is also a height restriction with the current intersection which means trucks bigger than 3.7 metres can’t fit under the Melbourne-Warrnambool rail bridge. The original Breakwater Road alignment is prone to flooding and a 3.7m clearance on the rail overpass across Breakwater Road and the Barwon River prevents larger transport vehicles from using the road. In January 2010, VicRoads finalized plans for a new alignment and in August 2010 McConnell Dowell was awarded the contract to build the new Breakwater Road. The Company is pleased to advise that Ontrack has awarded McConnell Dowell the Bridge 298 contract.   The scope of work is for the construction of a new 150m long railway bridge over the Whangamarino River at Mercer, 30km south of Auckland. The bridge forms part of North Island Main Trunk rail network. Works include the approaches either side of the bridge which involve substantial earthworks, services relocation, river protection works and the removal of the existing rail bridge. Since the project commenced, the project team has been committed to ensuring safe work practices and effective safety communication throughout the site. This has included individual awards for excellent HSE performance as well as encouraging all personnel to report on safety observations and potential incidents before they become an accident.
