The Ambuklao and Binga Hydropower Plant project in the Philippines was a testament to McConnell Dowell’s capabilities in remote area construction, the development recieving a silver award for the “Best Renewable Energy Power Plant of the Year” in the 2011 Asian Power Awards. The Bogong Power Development Project, awarded to McConnell Dowell as a design and construct (D&C) contract by AGL Southern Hydro, is the largest hydro power project constructed in Australia in 25 years. It consists of a network of tunnels and shafts and the construction of a new underground hydro electric power station in a picturesque national park near the Victorian ski fields at Falls Creek. We are pleased to announce that McConnell Dowell Philippines Inc has been awarded the contract for civil works associated with the refurbishment of the Ambuklao and Binga Hydropower plants. The two plants, located near Baguio City in the Philippines, were commissioned over 40 years ago and have been severely compromised by major siltation and volcanic activity. New intakes to both stations will be constructed above the silt level as well as new drop shafts and head race intake tunnels.
