The FAST JV has awarded the first of their Monthly Safety Awards to McConnell Dowell. The Safety Awards take into account all contractors working on RGP 5 (Rapid Growth Project 5 Marine Works) Port Development works for BHP Billiton Iron Ore. The safety crew flag was presented by Steve Carter, Marine Superintendent FAST JV to Hale Bray, Safety Representative and the Temporary Construction Load Out Facility work group (TCLOF). The Company is pleased to advise that Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company Ltd have awarded McConnell Dowell South East Asia Pte Ltd a contract to construct the Underground Pedestrian Walkway for the new Specialist Shopping Centre being developed on Orchard Road.  McConnell Dowell’s scope of work includes the design and construction of the temporary civil works and subsequent construction of the underground walkway including civil and structural works, road re-alignment and landscaping. We are pleased to advise that our team on the IRF project in Singapore have been awarded “Contractor of the Month” by Client ExxonMobil in recognition of our exceptional safety performance on the project during the month of July. ExxonMobil assess their contractors’ safety performance on a wide range of criteria including site compliance, management commitment to safety, safety incentives and promotions as well as participation in ExxonMobil’s own safety program ‘CORE’. MacDow has been awarded the contract for the refurbishment of the Bridgewater Bridge in Tasmania by the Department of Infrastructure, Energy & Resources (DIER). The project includes the refurbishment of the mechanical system used to open and close the bridge, as well as the overall refurbishment of the structural support and electrical systems. The work also includes the repainting of the under structure of the bridge. The work involves some intricate mechanical installations which will have to be carried out with minimal disruptions to the traffic flow on the bridge. On 26 August 2009 the team successfully completed pipelaying across Botany Bay which included world first tandem laying of twin 1,422 mm diameter pipes 7,015m across Botany Bay from Kyeemagh to Silver Beach at Kurnell. The Company is pleased to advise that final inspection of the waterway at Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme was successfully completed on the 4th September and the tunnel plug door closed. Filling of the main headrace tunnel commenced at 14:00 AEST via the cooling water offtake at McKay Creek (around 200L/s) to provide a buffer of water up against the plug prior to the main fill commencing. Water will be directed into the waterway from the McKay Creek Power Station turbines, from around 06:00 this Sunday, the 6th September. The awards were announced on Thursday, September 17 at the Victorian Engineers Australia Branch Dinner. The Excellence Awards recognise the highest level of achievement in the engineering field.
