The Company is pleased to announce that the Environment Management Team from Origin/APLNG Pipelines have recently received an Australia Biosecurity Award. The team received the award on Tuesday 5 March at the National Convention Centre, Canberra. The company is pleased to announce that the Huntly North Shaft project received an award for safety innovation at the inaugural Site Safe Construction Health and Safety Awards 2012 in Auckland. The Safety Innovation Award is for a Site or Company demonstrating the best new idea or initiative to drive improvements in Health and Safety Systems or behaviours; address or manage a specific hazard; create a design solution to address a problem;, or to improve productivity. The Award recognises the successful implementation of a number of creative solutions developed by the Huntly North Shaft team to address the significant and potentially fatal hazards associated with this technically complex underground project. McConnell Dowell has cleaned up at this year’s Australian Pipeline Industry Association (APIA) awards winning in the categories of safety and the inaugural environmental award. The company is pleased to announce that Rio Tinto have awarded McConnell Dowell the Tug Harbour Marine works for the Cape Lambert Port B Project, Western Australia. The scope includes marine works associated with the construction of a new tug pen, pontoons and access gangways. The New Zealand Contractors Federation has awarded the Hobson’s Bay Sewer Tunnel project the 2009 Environmental Award for Contracts over $10 million.   This achievement recognises the dedication that joint venture partners MacDow and Fletcher have shown to protecting the environment through both design innovation and construction implementation. The use of TBM technology in the delivery of the tunnel allowed a shallow alignment to be selected, reducing pumping requirements and energy demand. This reduction in energy consumption is approximately equivalent to a reduction of 160T of carbon dioxide per annum.
