The New Zealand Contractors Federation has awarded the Hobson’s Bay Sewer Tunnel project the 2009 Environmental Award for Contracts over $10 million.   This achievement recognises the dedication that joint venture partners MacDow and Fletcher have shown to protecting the environment through both design innovation and construction implementation. The use of TBM technology in the delivery of the tunnel allowed a shallow alignment to be selected, reducing pumping requirements and energy demand. This reduction in energy consumption is approximately equivalent to a reduction of 160T of carbon dioxide per annum. As of end July 2009 our “Mod Squad” team at LXML, Sepon mine, Lao PDR passed 300,000 man hours without a LTI.  This achievement is even more impressive in that it has taken 50 months to reach and the work they have undertaken is generally modification and shutdown work to a live operating plant.Surpassing this milestone is testament to the positive team approach to safety and risk management. The Company is pleased to announce that the team at the Ambuklao and Binga Hydropower Plants Rehabilitation project in the Philippines have achieved 1,000,000 man hours LTI free. The Company is pleased to advise the McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd have been selected by ERM as the preferred ECI contractor for the Braemar 3 gas pipeline in Queensland, Australia.The scope includes the design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing and pre-commissioning of a 16’’ x X70 pipeline and its associated facilities.  The Braemar 3 pipeline will be tied in at the ’Kenya’ facility and will run generally south toward the New South Wales border for 155 km and connect to a new gas fired power plant.ERM intends to work with Macdow in an Early Contractor Involvement process with the aim of forming an EPC Contract by October 1, 2009. The Company is pleased to announce that the team on the Beauty World Station Project have achieved 100,000 man hours LTI free. Design and construction of the new underground station began in March this year and the works include design and construction of two MRT tunnels, 1,100 m bored tunnels with an internal diameter of 5.8 m, two cross passages and 135 m of cut and cover tunnels.
