Adelaide Desalination Transfer Pipeline Project Award
The Company is pleased to announce that the South Australia water Corporation (SA water) has awarded the Adelaide Desalination Transfer Pipeline Project to McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd in joint venture with Built Environs Pty Ltd. This significant award is the culmination of an extensive pre-qualification and early contractor involvement (ECI) process.

On 26 August 2009 the team successfully completed pipelaying across Botany Bay which included world first tandem laying of twin 1,422 mm diameter pipes 7,015m across Botany Bay from Kyeemagh to Silver Beach at Kurnell. Adelaide Desalination Preferred Bidder
The Company is pleased to advise that the AdelaideAqua consortium, which includes McConnell Dowell, has been named by South Australian Premier Mike Rann as the preferred bidder for construction of Adelaide’s new 50-gigalitre desalination plant to be built at Port Stanvac.
The AdelaideAqua consortium companies comprise Australian-based McConnell Dowell, Spanish firm Acciona Agua, Abigroup and United Utilities. Together they will design, build, operate and maintain the plant for 20 years for South Australia water.
Northern Pipeline Interconnector Stage 2 – Queensland

Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme- Project Milestone
The Company is pleased to advise that final inspection of the waterway at Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme was successfully completed on the 4th September and the tunnel plug door closed.
Filling of the main headrace tunnel commenced at 14:00 AEST via the cooling water offtake at McKay Creek (around 200L/s) to provide a buffer of water up against the plug prior to the main fill commencing.

Water Delivery Alliance Wins CCF Award
The Company is pleased to advise that the water Delivery Alliance (McConnell Dowell, Bovis Lend Lease, Kellogg Brown and Root, Worley Parsons, Environmental Resource Management and Sydney water) has won the 2010 CCF Earth Awards New South Wales Division for Excellence in Civil Construction. Awards were announced on Friday, June 25 at the NSW CCF Branch Dinner.
The CCF Earth Awards are Australia’s premier civil construction industry awards, and recognise contractors who display excellence in construction techniques, environmental management and project management. Each Branch holds State Awards, the winners of which are then in contention for the National Award, announced later this year.

Linkwater, a new water infrastructure company formed by the Queensland Government in 2006 to manage the existing and long term potable water requirements of South East Queensland, awarded McConnnell Dowell, in joint venture, the Southern Regional water Pipeline Project (SRWP).

TBMs Arrive at Adelaide Desal Plant
The Company is pleased to advise that on the 18th of November two $15 million 150 t tunnel boring machines (TBMs), ‘Cora the Bora’ and ‘Nessie’, arrived on site at the 100 GL Adelaide Desalination Plant project to begin work on the 1.5 km intake and 1 km outlet tunnels.
The TBMs were named by local Hallett Cove Primary School grade 5 students Selena Spink and Ellie Jamieson, who won the “Name the Tunnel Boring Machine Competition” run by SA water and AdelaideAqua. The Company is pleased to announce that the Southern Regional water Pipeline Alliance has won a Gold Award in the transport and civil infrastructure category of the 2009 Association of Consulting Engineers Australia (ACEA) Awards for Excellence for its work on the South East Queensland water Grid Interconnection pipeline system.
ACEA said “Quality and innovative engineering and management services played a key role in the successful delivery of a massive and complex project which is of critical benefit to communities in South East Queensland. The project clearly demonstrated the major benefits achieved by a highly integrated and successful alliance team.”

Lock and Weir 15 Contract Award
The Company is pleased to advise that Built Environs has been awarded the contract for the upgrade of the navigable pass, fishways and ancillary works at Lock and Weir 15 on the River Murray at Robinvale on the Victorian and New South Wales border.

Ambuklao & Binga Hydropower Plants Civil Works, Philippines, Award
We are pleased to announce that McConnell Dowell Philippines Inc has been awarded the contract for civil works associated with the refurbishment of the Ambuklao and Binga Hydropower plants.
