Bakewell Underpass Project Wins Engineering Excellence Award
The Company is pleased to announce that the Bakewell Underpass Project has won the 2008 Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Awards, South Australian Division, for Excellence in infrastructure and Building Projects. The awards were announced on Saturday, August 30, at the South Australian Engineers Australia Branch Dinner.
The Excellence Awards recognise the highest level of achievement in the engineering field. They provide peer recognition of outstanding engineering work as well as providing an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the invaluable contribution the engineering profession makes to the community. Each Branch holds State Awards, the winners of 
Bridgewater Bridge Project Award
MacDow has been awarded the contract for the refurbishment of the Bridgewater Bridge in Tasmania by the Department of infrastructure, Energy & Resources (DIER).
The project includes the refurbishment of the mechanical system used to open and close the bridge, as well as the overall refurbishment of the structural support and electrical systems. The work also includes the repainting of the under structure of the bridge.
The work involves some intricate mechanical installations which will have to be carried out with minimal disruptions to the traffic flow on the bridge. Project planning commences immediately with site mobilisation expected in October.

The Company is pleased to announce that the MCG Concourse Redevelopment Project received a High Commendation at the 2009 Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Awards, Victorian Division, for Excellence in infrastructure Projects (up to $20million).

Western Sydney Recycled Water Initiative Project Completion
The Company is pleased to announce the practical completion of the Western Sydney Recycled Water Initiative Project, with lines 2, 3 and 4 now fully connected. The existing sludge line (line 5) has also been upgraded to meet the higher pressures required for the current design.
This project is a joint venture between McConnell Dowell, United Group infrastructure and General Electric (Deerubbin Water Futures).

South Road Upgrade Project Award
The Company is pleased to advise that Built Environs has been awarded the contract to upgrade a heavily-used 1.5km section of South Road, Old Noarlunga, for the South Australian Department of Transport, Energy and infrastructure (DTEI).
The Built Environs engineering team will be upgrading two major signalised intersections, involving the movement of around 10,000m3 of earthworks and 22,000t of profiling and asphalt works.
The work will ultimately help with the management of current and future peak traffic volumes to and from Adelaide and the growing southern suburbs region, including Victor Harbour.

GTO Wins Industry Award
The Company is pleased to announce that the Glenelg Tram Overpass (GTO) project has received an award for excellence at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia Excellence Awards, held on Saturday, 8th of May.
The project, a joint award submission with our client the South Australian Department of Transport, Energy and infrastructure (DTEI), won the Design and/or Construction of a Public Works Project category.
In April 2009, DTEI awarded McConnell Dowell the design and construction contract for the project in Adelaide, South Australia.

The Company is pleased to advise that the North Melbourne Station Upgrade has won the Category 4 division (projects valued between $20m and $75m) at the 2010 Victorian CCF Earth Awards for Excellence in Civil Construction. Tahuna Ocean Outfall Project Wins NZ Constructors Federation Award
The Tahuna Ocean Outfall project in Dunedin, New Zealand was awarded the New Zealand Constructors Federation Award in Category 5 – projects exceeding $20 million – on Friday, 14th of August.The annual awards, which are open to all members of the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation, cover major civil engineering, construction and general contracting projects completed during the past year with judges paying specific attention to excellence in planning, control and quality by project teams.The project, which was completed in May 2009, included construction of a 510 m long tunnel from Tahuna Waste Water Treatment plant 250 m offshore beyond the surf zone. Built Environs has received two Master Builders Association Excellence awards in South Australia.
Clements Gap Windfarm took the award in Category 11 - Excellence in Civil Construction.
The Adelaide Showground Goyder Pavilion work was also recognised with a commendation in Category 6 - Excellence in a Commercial / Industrial building $20 m - $50 m.
Sino Iron Project Marine Works Contract Award
The Company is pleased to advise that Sino Iron Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Hong Kong listed Citic Pacific Ltd, has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd a contract for the construction of marine facilities associated with their Sino Iron Project. Citic Pacific Mining Management Pty Ltd. is acting as the principal’s representative.
The Sino Iron Project, located at Cape Preston, approximately 1,500 km north of Perth, involves the establishment of an iron ore mine and related facilities, including marine loading and unloading facilities. McConnell Dowell’s works consist of four separable portions:
Installation of caissons for service wharf, construction of a module offload facility and installation of a desalination seawater intake;

SA Police Headquarters Contract Award
The Company is pleased to announce that Built Environs Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the new South Australian Police (SAPOL) headquarters in Adelaide by Commercial & General.
The 10-storey concrete building (including basement) is being designed to achieve a five star Greenstar rating - including the use of natural energy for a healthy working environment - and will feature an open plan office space, curtain wall glazing and extra security features, including special ballistic bullet-proof glass.
Built Environs will construct the building while maintaining emergency vehicle access to the rear of the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service facility on Wakefield Street.

Completion of CUF Project Marine Portion, South Australia
The Company is pleased to announce the practical completion of the marine portion of the Common User Facility Project.
The CUF project forms part of Techport Australia – the country's premier naval industry hub being developed at Osborne, South Australia. The facility will support Australian Submarine Corporation to deliver the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD) and attract other shipbuilding and repair opportunities.
The Common User Facility consists of three key areas, including the now-complete Marine works encompassing a wharf 213 m long and 25 m wide, and dredged access to the Port River shipping channel.

TBMs Arrive at Adelaide Desal Plant
The Company is pleased to advise that on the 18th of November two $15 million 150 t tunnel boring machines (TBMs), ‘Cora the Bora’ and ‘Nessie’, arrived on site at the 100 GL Adelaide Desalination Plant project to begin work on the 1.5 km intake and 1 km outlet tunnels.
The TBMs were named by local Hallett Cove Primary School grade 5 students Selena Spink and Ellie Jamieson, who won the “Name the Tunnel Boring Machine Competition” run by SA Water and AdelaideAqua.
