Fabrication

McConnell Dowell's Batam Facility is the company's key fabrication yard in South East Asia.  Established in 1998, the facility covers 15 hectares and is strategically located 20 km from Singapore. Located in a trade free zone to cater for export fabrication, the facility supplies Australian, Pacific, South East Asian and Middle Eastern clients. The site has open water frontage and a draft of five metres for shipping and barge load-out.  The facility operates to international quality, safety and environmental standards and is staffed with a skilled Indonesian workforce which is supervised by an expatriate management team. Singapore International Cruise Terminal

The Company is pleased to advise that McConnell Dowell South East Asia Pte Ltd, in joint venture with Penta Ocean and Toa Corporation, has been awarded the Singapore International Cruise Terminal by JTC on behalf of the Singapore Tourism Board. The works include design and construction of two new berths, terminal deck, car park deck, mooring dolphins, an 800 m long current training wall, dredging for navigation passage and land reclamation, road access, services and miscellaneous ancillary works. McConnell Dowell will take primary responsibility for the training wall installing driven piles and a 6 m wide concrete deck, as well as an interface deck of 45 m x 36 m along with

Marina Bay Sands Safety Achievement

The Marina Bay Sands project team in Singapore has achieved 500,000 man-hours without lost time injury. This is a major milestone for a Civil & Marine project in Singapore and even more significant due to the challenging nature of the work site which includes limited working areas and numerous interface issues with other contractors across all work fronts. To date the team have completed three deck and events plaza phases of the project and are now constructing the innovative and complex Crystal Pavilion Works which involves constructing two very large circular cofferdams and two complex and confined space reinforced concrete buildings over 24 m high within these cofferdams, all on an accelerated

Sentosa Bridge Project Completion

The Company is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Sentosa Bridge project in Singapore for Resorts World at Sentosa on time and on budget. The design and construct project was for a new 380m segmentally launched road bridge to travel to and from Singapore to Sentosa Island. Key to completing the project in such a short construction period was the maximisation of precast concrete elements and the modularisation of the steel truss bridges at the Company’s Batam fabrication facility. With such a challenging environment involving limited access for heavy lift barges and strong currents, this project showcased how MacDow’s Creative Construction can overcome all challenges. Marina Bay Sands Safety Achievement

The Company is pleased to advise that the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort (MBSIR) Project in Singapore achieved 1,250,000 man-hours LTI free on Saturday, 21 August. This new safety milestone was achieved just under three months after achieving one million man-hours LTI Free and culminates with the completion of the technically difficult and accelerated Crystal Pavilions RC Work on site. With the completion of this major portion of the works, the Project enters the final stages of completion with the current accelerated program aiming for completion of all follow-on works by mid-November 2010. The project team has been operating this congested and logistically challenging marine site 24 hours 6 days a week for

Helios Terminals Corporation awarded McConnell Dowell an engineer, procure and construct (EPC) contract for mechanical and civil works associated with their new liquid storage and blending facility on Jurong Island. Resorts World at Sentosa Pte Ltd awarded McConnell Dowell the design and construct (D&C) contract for the Sentosa Seawall and Land Reclamation Project in Singapore.Resorts World are developing an integrated resort which will include six hotels, casino and a Universal Theme Park on Sentosa Island. ExxonMobil Civil Works Safety Award

We are pleased to advise that our team on the IRF project in Singapore have been awarded “Contractor of the Month” by Client ExxonMobil in recognition of our exceptional safety performance on the project during the month of July. Oiltanking Jetties, Merak, Project Milestone

Beauty World Station & Tunnel Project - Safety Achievement

The Company is pleased to announce that the team on the Beauty World Station Project have achieved 100,000 man hours LTI free. Design and construction of the new underground station began in March this year and the works include design and construction of two MRT tunnels, 1,100 m bored tunnels with an internal diameter of 5.8 m, two cross passages and 135 m of cut and cover tunnels. Completion of URA Waterfront Promenade

The Company is pleased to advise project completion of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Waterfront Promenade Marine Structures at Marina Bay. The Marine Structures scope comprised a 250m long 12m wide Marine Boardwalk, with 32m long x 5m wide Piles less Pontoon. The project poured 1300m3 of pre-cast concrete, 700m3 of Insitu concrete and used 3000m pf Steel Pipe Pile. The URA initiated the project as a “Park in the City”, with the emphasis on being an aesthetically pleasing feature in the heart of Singapore’s CBD. Beauty World Station POB Milestone

The Company is pleased to announce the successful removal of the Pedestrian Overhead Bridge (POB) at the Beauty World and Tunnels project in Singapore. To make way for the road diversion and new station, the project scope included the removal of the 33-year-old POB. The bridge stretched across the busy Bukit Timah Road, providing pedestrian access between the bus stop and Beauty World Shopping centre. To avoid public risk and major traffic disruption during the day, the POB was successfully removed in two sections over the nights of 22nd and 23rd of February. The largest and longest section was 31m with a weight of 62t. This involved a complex tandem crane lift,

Marina Bay Sands Safety Achievement

The Marina Bay Sands Project Team has achieved 750,000 man-hours LTI Free. The current stage of this multi-phased project is the accelerated works program on the Crystal Pavilions and associated Marine dredging works. The work environment under which these LTI Free man-hours were achieved are challenging in terms of the site working 24hrs; working within a large circular marine cofferdam with restricted access; working within confined spaces; multiple lifts from marine barges and landside cranes; large volumes of concrete pours and working from height on an ever-changing multi-storey building. Achieving this safety result in this challenging work environment is a true acknowledgement to our people and their dedication and commitment to work together

PARS Project Safety Achievement

The Company is pleased to advise that the PARS Project in Singapore has achieved 2,000,000 man-hours LTI free. This is a credit to all our employees, their positive attitude to safety, the implementation and adherence to our systems and our close working relationship with our client, Foster Wheeler Worley Parsons, and the refinery owner and operator, Exxon Mobil that has resulted in such a significant safety milestone being achieved. Marina Bay Sands Safety Achievement

The Company is pleased to advise that the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort (MBSIR) Project in Singapore has achieved 1,000,000 man-hours LTI free. The 40 acre MBSIR includes three 50 storey hotel towers, linked at the top by a two acre sky garden; 90 000m² of retail outlets, a casino and museum; state-of-the art convention centre, 5,000m² event plaza and two 2,000 seat theatres. McConnell Dowell is undertaking construction of a continuous piled promenade deck, special events plaza superstructure and two special large diameter circular cofferdams for the exclusive semi-submerged crystal pavilions in the bay complete with underwater tunnel access to the casino.
