Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme Opens
The Company is pleased to announce the official opening of the Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme by Victorian Premier John Brumby on Friday 20 November.
“The Bogong Hydro Power Station is a great example of how climate change can provide a climate of opportunity – with new investment, more jobs and a cleaner environment.” Premier Brumby said.
The Bogong Power Development Project, awarded to McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd by AGL Southern Hydro in September 2006 and commissioned in October 2009, is the largest hydro power project constructed in Australia for 25 years.

Bogong Hydro Power Project
The Bogong Power Development Project, awarded to McConnell Dowell as a design and construct (D&C) contract by AGL Southern Hydro, is the largest hydro power project constructed in Australia in 25 years. It consists of a network of tunnels and shafts and the construction of a new underground hydro electric power station in a picturesque national park near the Victorian ski fields at Falls Creek. The power station forms part of AGL Southern Hydro’s strategic energy framework for the supply of green peak demand power. Ambuklao & Binga Dam Rehabilitation- Safety Award
The Company is pleased to announce that the team at the Ambuklao and Binga Hydropower Plants Rehabilitation project in the Philippines have achieved 1,000,000 man hours LTI free.
Works began on site in September 2008 and include new intakes, drop shafts and head race tunnels to both of the power stations along with dam rehabilitation works.

Western Power Asset Inspection Contract Award
The Company is pleased to advise that Electrix has been awarded a contract by Western Power for its Asset Inspection Services.
The contract scope will include asset inspection services across 50% of Western Power's electricity network in the South Western corner of Western Australia. The contract period is for an initial two year term with an option for a further one year extension. The mobilisation period for the works has commenced with field works to commence early July.
The contract will see the opening of a new regional office and depot, firmly establishing Electrix in Western Australia.

IRPC CHP Project Award, Thailand
The Company is pleased to announce that Baltec Inlet & Exhaust Systems Pty Ltd Australia has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors Thai Ltd a contract for the fabrication of one GE frame 6B Gas Turbine Exhaust Systems and 5 GE Frame 6B Gas Turbines.
The units, each with a final weight of 333 tons excluding diverter, are destined for Intergrated Refinery & Petrochemical Complex Public Company’s (IRPC) Combined Heat & Power Plant (CHP) project.

Braemar 3 Gas Pipeline - Project Award
The Company is pleased to advise the McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd have been selected by ERM as the preferred ECI contractor for the Braemar 3 gas pipeline in Queensland, Australia.The scope includes the design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing and pre-commissioning of a 16’’ x X70 pipeline and its associated facilities. The Braemar 3 pipeline will be tied in at the ’Kenya’ facility and will run generally south toward the New South Wales border for 155 km and connect to a new gas fired power plant.ERM intends to work with Macdow in an Early Contractor Involvement process with the aim of forming an EPC Contract by October 1, 2009.
Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme- Project Milestone
The Company is pleased to advise that final inspection of the waterway at Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme was successfully completed on the 4th September and the tunnel plug door closed.
Filling of the main headrace tunnel commenced at 14:00 AEST via the cooling water offtake at McKay Creek (around 200L/s) to provide a buffer of water up against the plug prior to the main fill commencing.
Water will be directed into the waterway from the McKay Creek Power Station turbines, from around 06:00 this Sunday, the 6th September. Filling will be controlled such that 20 m head will be added per hour. All going
Completion of Temporary School Structures, American Samoa
The Company is pleased to announce the successful completion and handover of the Temporary School Structures Project in American Samoa on 21 January.
This project involved the construction of 12 new temporary school structures spread over five villages worst hit by the devastating tsunami which struck the main island of Tutuila on 29 September, 2009.
Each Temporary School involved the erection of a tent like structure on a concrete foundation and included internal walls, power and water connections.
The structures, which are supplied from Sprung Structures in Canada, are made of aluminium framing bolted together with canvas skins stretched both outside and inside the framing, and thick insulation sandwiched between the two skins.

Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme Industry Finalist
The Company is pleased to advise that the Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme project received a finalist award in the 2010 Australian Constructors Association Awards (ACAA) at the gala dinner recently held in Brisbane and attended by 400 industry leaders.
The Award reflects the development of a culture within the construction industry which strives for world’s best practice and also recognises outstanding construction achievements. The Chair of the 2010 ACAA judging panel, Professor Michael Dureau, said, “All seven finalists have created benchmarks for future projects to emulate, and all project teams understood and were committed to delivering excellent outcomes for the client, stakeholders and the environment.”

Ergon Energy Asset Inspection Contract Award
The Company is pleased to advise that Electrix Australia has been awarded a further Asset Inspection Contract for Ergon Energy’s Central Queensland region for a period of 3+1+1 years.
The Project Office has been established in Rockhampton for 8 years, and securing this new Contract is a result of hard work and continuous improvement by the Electrix team. The Contract will have more than 50 employees and contractors, spread across Central Queensland from Bowen to Bundaberg, and as far outback as Birdsville.

Ambuklao & Binga Hydropower Plants Civil Works, Philippines, Award
We are pleased to announce that McConnell Dowell Philippines Inc has been awarded the contract for civil works associated with the refurbishment of the Ambuklao and Binga Hydropower plants.
The two plants, located near Baguio City in the Philippines, were commissioned over 40 years ago and have been severely compromised by major siltation and volcanic activity.
