Techport Australia Common User Facility wins South Australian CCF Earth Award

A joint venture between McConnell Dowell and Built Environs has received a prestigious Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) South Australian Earth Award for its work on the Techport Australia Common User Facility (CUF) on the Port River at Osborne, South Australia. The McConnell Dowell Built Environs joint venture (MBDE JV) completed construction of the approximate $260 million CUF in December 2009 – on budget and on schedule. The completed facility supports shipbuilding and maintenance company ASC in delivering the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD), with the capability to support other major shipbuilding and repair opportunities. The project was one of the first Early Contract Involvement (ECI) contracts in

Pilbara Iron Ore Infrastructure - Phase A & B

Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) awarded McConnell Dowell the design and construct (D&C) contract for the Pilbara Iron Ore Infrastructure Project at Port Hedland in Western Australia. FMG is positioning itself as the third major iron ore producer in Australia. MacDow's scope of work included a load-out berth, a lay-by berth and navigation aids. The load-out berth comprises a 100 m long approach jetty complete with roadway and elevated conveyor trusses; a transfer station platform with wharf conveyor, drive and belt change-out areas; and a wharf structure to supports the shiploader. The wharf includes shiploader rails; six independent berthing dolphins including fenders and quick release mooring hooks and controls; and trafficable concrete

Common User Facility Project

McConnell Dowell, in joint venture with our subsidiary Built Environs, was selected by DefenceSA to deliver the Common User Facility (CUF) project. The CUF project forms part of Techport Australia – the country's premier naval industry hub being developed at Osborne, South Australia.  The facility will support Australian Submarine Corporation to deliver the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD) and attract other shipbuilding and repair opportunities.

Corio Quay North Wharf & Ship Loader Construction Award

The company is pleased to advise the McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd, in joint venture with Tenova SEMF, have been awarded the design and construction contract for a new woodchip loader and berth at Corio Quay by Geelong Port Pty Ltd. The existing ship loader is reaching the end of its useful life with a maximum vessel length capacity of 209 m and its designed annual throughput is 600,000 tonnes. The new facility will increase the capacity of the berth

Rapid Growth Project 5 Marine Works Award

The Company is pleased to advise that BHP Billiton Iron Ore Pty Ltd has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd, Rapid Growth Project 5 Marine Works, in Western Australia. The scope of works consists of the design and construction, material supply, plant and labour of two additional iron ore export berths at Harriet Point (Berths G and H) inside the harbour at Port Hedland, Western Australia. Mobilisation to site is expected to commence in March 2009.

Adelaide Desalination Preferred Bidder

The Company is pleased to advise that the AdelaideAqua consortium, which includes McConnell Dowell, has been named by South Australian Premier Mike Rann as the preferred bidder for construction of Adelaide’s new 50-gigalitre desalination plant to be built at Port Stanvac. The AdelaideAqua consortium companies comprise Australian-based McConnell Dowell, Spanish firm Acciona Agua, Abigroup and United Utilities. Together they will design, build, operate and maintain the plant for 20 years for South Australia Water.

RGP5 Safety Award

The FAST JV has awarded the first of their Monthly Safety Awards to McConnell Dowell. The Safety Awards take into account all contractors working on RGP 5 (Rapid Growth Project 5 Marine Works) Port Development works for BHP Billiton Iron Ore. The safety crew flag was presented by Steve Carter, Marine Superintendent FAST JV to Hale Bray, Safety Representative and the Temporary Construction Load Out Facility work group (TCLOF). This safety award was awarded in recognition for continued safety performance and effort that the TCLOF team has shown towards safety. This included but not limited to setting up of the TCLOF area, crane and heavy lift operations, house keeping, plant and equipment,

Sydney Desalination Plant Distribution Network Project- Project Milestone

The Company is pleased to advise that the Water Delivery Alliance which includes Sydney Water, McConnell Dowell, Bovis Lend Lease, KBR, Worley Parsons and Environmental Resource Management, has successfully reached three significant milestones for the Sydney Desalination Plant Distribution Network project. On 26 August 2009 the team successfully completed pipelaying across Botany Bay which included world first tandem laying of twin 1,422 mm diameter pipes 7,015m across Botany Bay from Kyeemagh to Silver Beach at Kurnell. The pipes were installed from a purpose built laybarge called the Nebula. The 100 m by 30 m wide and 35 m high pipelay vessel

Completion of CUF Project Marine Portion, South Australia

  The Company is pleased to announce the practical completion of the marine portion of the Common User Facility Project. TBMs Arrive at Adelaide Desal Plant

The Company is pleased to advise that on the 18th of November two $15 million 150 t tunnel boring machines (TBMs), ‘Cora the Bora’ and ‘Nessie’, arrived on site at the 100 GL Adelaide Desalination Plant project to begin work on the 1.5 km intake and 1 km outlet tunnels. The TBMs were named by local Hallett Cove Primary School grade 5 students Selena Spink and Ellie Jamieson, who won the “Name the Tunnel Boring Machine Competition” run by SA Water and AdelaideAqua. Koniambo Construction Works Packages Contract Award

The Company is pleased to advise that the Socalmo MacDow Joint Venture has been awarded 20 Construction Works Packages by Koniambo Nickel SAS (KNS) for the Koniambo Nickel project in New Caledonia. The scope of works in the packages awarded includes the construction of above & underground pipe works, storage tanks, overland conveyors, an ore preparation plant and civil works. Construction is expected to commence on site in September 2010. Marina South Lighter Wharf Project Award

The Company is pleased to advise that McConnell Dowell South East Asia Pte Ltd, has been awarded the Marina South Lighter Wharf project for the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The scope of work comprises: Construction of a 3 berth wharf, 100 m long (frontage) x 20 m wide; 39 x 800 mm dia. steel piles supporting the concrete deck; Dredging to the front of the new berths; Single storey office building, including M&E works (45 m long x 8 m wide); 200 m long x 10 m wide access road, including piled surface water drainage system; and Services reticulation along the new access road alignment and connection to the existing services.
