ASL Marine Project Award

The Company is pleased to advise that ASL Marine Holdings has awarded PT McConnell Dowell Services a contract for the design and construction of a 150 m jetty, a layby berth and associated dolphins at their Batam shipyard. Construction works commence this month with project completion scheduled for August 2011. This is the 2nd marine project the Company has secured from our valuable Client ASL Marine. Completion of CUF Project Marine Portion, South Australia

  The Company is pleased to announce the practical completion of the marine portion of the Common User Facility Project. The CUF project forms part of Techport Australia – the country's premier naval industry hub being developed at Osborne, South Australia.  The facility will support Australian Submarine Corporation to deliver the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD) and attract other shipbuilding and repair opportunities. The Common User Facility consists of three key areas, including the now-complete Marine works encompassing a wharf 213 m long and 25 m wide, and dredged access to the Port River shipping channel. Marina Bay Sands Safety Achievement

The Marina Bay Sands Project Team has achieved 750,000 man-hours LTI Free. The current stage of this multi-phased project is the accelerated works program on the Crystal Pavilions and associated Marine dredging works. The work environment under which these LTI Free man-hours were achieved are challenging in terms of the site working 24hrs; working within a large circular marine cofferdam with restricted access; working within confined spaces; multiple lifts from marine barges and landside cranes; large volumes of concrete pours and working from height on an ever-changing multi-storey building. Achieving this safety result in this challenging work environment is a true acknowledgement to our people and their dedication and commitment to work together

Rapid Growth Project 5 Marine Works Award

The Company is pleased to advise that BHP Billiton Iron Ore Pty Ltd has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd, Rapid Growth Project 5 Marine Works, in Western Australia. The scope of works consists of the design and construction, material supply, plant and labour of two additional iron ore export berths at Harriet Point (Berths G and H) inside the harbour at Port Hedland, Western Australia. Mobilisation to site is expected to commence in March 2009.

RGP5 Safety Award

The FAST JV has awarded the first of their Monthly Safety Awards to McConnell Dowell. The Safety Awards take into account all contractors working on RGP 5 (Rapid Growth Project 5 Marine Works) Port Development works for BHP Billiton Iron Ore. The safety crew flag was presented by Steve Carter, Marine Superintendent FAST JV to Hale Bray, Safety Representative and the Temporary Construction Load Out Facility work group (TCLOF). This safety award was awarded in recognition for continued safety performance and effort that the TCLOF team has shown towards safety. Sino Iron Project Marine Works Contract Award

The Company is pleased to advise that Sino Iron Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Hong Kong listed Citic Pacific Ltd, has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd a contract for the construction of marine facilities associated with their Sino Iron Project. Citic Pacific Mining Management Pty Ltd. is acting as the principal’s representative. The Sino Iron Project, located at Cape Preston, approximately 1,500 km north of Perth, involves the establishment of an iron ore mine and related facilities, including marine loading and unloading facilities. McConnell Dowell’s works consist of  four separable portions: Installation of caissons for service wharf, construction of a module offload facility and installation of a desalination seawater intake; Construction

Marina Bay Sands Safety Achievement

The Marina Bay Sands project team in Singapore has achieved 500,000 man-hours without lost time injury. This is a major milestone for a Civil & Marine project in Singapore and even more significant due to the challenging nature of the work site which includes limited working areas and numerous interface issues with other contractors across all work fronts. To date the team have completed three deck and events plaza phases of the project and are now constructing the innovative and complex Crystal Pavilion Works which involves constructing two very large circular cofferdams and two complex and confined space reinforced concrete buildings over 24 m high within these cofferdams, all on an accelerated

Completion of URA Waterfront Promenade

The Company is pleased to advise project completion of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Waterfront Promenade Marine Structures at Marina Bay. The Marine Structures scope comprised a 250m long 12m wide Marine Boardwalk, with 32m long x 5m wide Piles less Pontoon. The project poured 1300m3 of pre-cast concrete, 700m3 of Insitu concrete and used 3000m pf Steel Pipe Pile. The URA initiated the project as a “Park in the City”, with the emphasis on being an aesthetically pleasing feature in the heart of Singapore’s CBD. Further to the usual civil and structural challenges of the project was the additional requirement of “Architectural Intent”. An example of this challenge was the three dimensional

The team on the International Cruise Terminal (ICT) Project at Marina South in Singapore has achieved 250,000 man-hours LTI free. The Company is pleased to advise that the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort (MBSIR) Project in Singapore achieved 1,250,000 man-hours LTI free on Saturday, 21 August. This new safety milestone was achieved just under three months after achieving one million man-hours LTI Free and culminates with the completion of the technically difficult and accelerated Crystal Pavilions RC Work on site. With the completion of this major portion of the works, the Project enters the final stages of completion with the current accelerated program aiming for completion of all follow-on works by mid-November 2010. Corio Quay North Wharf & Ship Loader Construction Award

The company is pleased to advise the McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd, in joint venture with Tenova SEMF, have been awarded the design and construction contract for a new woodchip loader and berth at Corio Quay by Geelong Port Pty Ltd. The existing ship loader is reaching the end of its useful life with a maximum vessel length capacity of 209 m and its designed annual throughput is 600,000 tonnes. Adelaide Desalination Preferred Bidder

The Company is pleased to advise that the AdelaideAqua consortium, which includes McConnell Dowell, has been named by South Australian Premier Mike Rann as the preferred bidder for construction of Adelaide’s new 50-gigalitre desalination plant to be built at Port Stanvac. The AdelaideAqua consortium companies comprise Australian-based McConnell Dowell, Spanish firm Acciona Agua, Abigroup and United Utilities. Together they will design, build, operate and maintain the plant for 20 years for South Australia Water.

Tahuna Ocean Outfall Project Wins NZ Constructors Federation Award

The Tahuna Ocean Outfall project in Dunedin, New Zealand was awarded the New Zealand Constructors Federation Award in Category 5 – projects exceeding $20 million – on Friday, 14th of August.The annual awards, which are open to all members of the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation, cover major civil engineering, construction and general contracting projects completed during the past year with judges paying specific attention to excellence in planning, control and quality by project teams.The project, which was completed in May 2009, included construction of a 510 m long tunnel from Tahuna Waste Water Treatment plant 250 m offshore beyond the surf zone. Bridgewater Bridge Project Award

MacDow has been awarded the contract for the refurbishment of the Bridgewater Bridge in Tasmania by the Department of Infrastructure, Energy & Resources (DIER). The project includes the refurbishment of the mechanical system used to open and close the bridge, as well as the overall refurbishment of the structural support and electrical systems. The work also includes the repainting of the under structure of the bridge. The work involves some intricate mechanical installations which will have to be carried out with minimal disruptions to the traffic flow on the bridge. Oiltanking Jetties, Merak, Project Milestone

The Company is pleased to advise the first berthing of a vessel at Oiltanking’s new Merak Jetty, the first independent deep water terminal built in Indonesia.
