Western Power Asset Inspection Contract Award
The Company is pleased to advise that Electrix has been awarded a contract by Western Power for its Asset Inspection Services.
The contract scope will include asset inspection services across 50% of Western Power's electricity network in the South Western corner of Western Australia. The contract period is for an initial two year term with an option for a further one year extension. The mobilisation period for the works has commenced with field works to commence early July.
The contract will see the opening of a new regional office and depot, firmly establishing Electrix in Western Australia.
This contract award comes off the back of a strategic decision by Electrix

The Company is pleased to announce that Baltec Inlet & Exhaust Systems Pty Ltd Australia has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors Thai Ltd a contract for the fabrication of one GE frame 6B Gas Turbine Exhaust Systems and 5 GE Frame 6B Gas Turbines.
The units, each with a final weight of 333 tons excluding diverter, are destined for Intergrated Refinery & Petrochemical Complex Public Company’s (IRPC) Combined Heat & Power Plant (CHP) project.

The Company is pleased to announce that the MCG Concourse Redevelopment Project received a High Commendation at the 2009 Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Awards, Victorian Division, for Excellence in Infrastructure Projects (up to $20million).
The awards were announced on Thursday, September 17 at the Victorian Engineers Australia Branch Dinner. The Excellence Awards recognise the highest level of achievement in the engineering field. They provide peer recognition of outstanding engineering work as well as providing an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the invaluable contribution the engineering profession makes to the community.

Dan Morgan wins APIA Award
The Company is pleased to announce that Dan Morgan has been presented with the 2009 Australian Pipeline Industry Association (APIA) Young Achievement Award.

Meander Dam Concrete Award
McConnell Dowell is pleased to announce that McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd was awarded the 2009 Award for Excellence in Concrete in the Engineering Projects category by the Concrete Institute of Australia for work on the Meander Dam project in Tasmania.
The award recognised the functional, aesthetic and economic worth of the project with particular emphasis on the appropriateness of concrete construction to the purpose of the structure.
The project included the construction of a 47 m high roller compacted concrete (RCC) dam 180 m long across the top and capable of storing 43,000 ML. The dam configuration includes a central 50 m wide spillway to pass most floods whilst 1

Sino Iron Project Marine Works Contract Award
The Company is pleased to advise that Sino Iron Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Hong Kong listed Citic Pacific Ltd, has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd a contract for the construction of marine facilities associated with their Sino Iron Project. Citic Pacific Mining Management Pty Ltd. is acting as the principal’s representative.
The Sino Iron Project, located at Cape Preston, approximately 1,500 km north of Perth, involves the establishment of an iron ore mine and related facilities, including marine loading and unloading facilities. McConnell Dowell’s works consist of four separable portions:
Installation of caissons for service wharf, construction of a module offload facility and installation of a desalination seawater intake;

SRWP Project Recognised at AAA
The company is pleased to announce that the Southern Regional Water Pipeline project has been recognised in the Alliancing Association of Australasia’s Excellence Awards with a High Commendation.
“The Southern Regional Water Pipeline Alliance Project began as a single regional infrastructure project in South East Queensland and grew to become a $1.3 billion program of works over an area spanning 200 km. Collaboration between participant companies and concurrent disciplines saw the project delivered on time and under budget despite the significant increase in scope,” said AAA Executive Director, Alain Mignot.

SA Police Headquarters Contract Award
The Company is pleased to announce that Built Environs Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the new South Australian Police (SAPOL) headquarters in Adelaide by Commercial & General.
The 10-storey concrete building (including basement) is being designed to achieve a five star Greenstar rating - including the use of natural energy for a healthy working environment - and will feature an open plan office space, curtain wall glazing and extra security features, including special ballistic bullet-proof glass.
Built Environs will construct the building while maintaining emergency vehicle access to the rear of the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service facility on Wakefield Street.

Completion of CUF Project Marine Portion, South Australia
The Company is pleased to announce the practical completion of the marine portion of the Common User Facility Project.
The CUF project forms part of Techport Australia – the country's premier naval industry hub being developed at Osborne, South Australia. The facility will support Australian Submarine Corporation to deliver the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD) and attract other shipbuilding and repair opportunities.
The Common User Facility consists of three key areas, including the now-complete Marine works encompassing a wharf 213 m long and 25 m wide, and dredged access to the Port River shipping channel.

Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme Opens
The Company is pleased to announce the official opening of the Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme by Victorian Premier John Brumby on Friday 20 November.
“The Bogong Hydro Power Station is a great example of how climate change can provide a climate of opportunity – with new investment, more jobs and a cleaner environment.” Premier Brumby said.

TBMs Arrive at Adelaide Desal Plant
The Company is pleased to advise that on the 18th of November two $15 million 150 t tunnel boring machines (TBMs), ‘Cora the Bora’ and ‘Nessie’, arrived on site at the 100 GL Adelaide Desalination Plant project to begin work on the 1.5 km intake and 1 km outlet tunnels.

Marina Bay Sands Safety Achievement
The Marina Bay Sands project team in Singapore has achieved 500,000 man-hours without lost time injury.
This is a major milestone for a Civil & Marine project in Singapore and even more significant due to the challenging nature of the work site which includes limited working areas and numerous interface issues with other contractors across all work fronts.

The Company is pleased to announce that the Southern Regional Water Pipeline Alliance has won a Gold Award in the transport and civil infrastructure category of the 2009 Association of Consulting Engineers Australia (ACEA) Awards for Excellence for its work on the South East Queensland Water Grid Interconnection pipeline system.

The Company is pleased to advise that McConnell Dowell Constructors Ltd has been awarded the contract for the Solomon Islands Road Improvement Project (SIRIP) by the Solomon Islands Government.
The works include construction of two steel girder bridges, eight concrete low level bridges, ten causeways, four engineered fords and the design and construction of two steel truss high level bridges in the remote region of Makira/Ulawa Province.
Situated in the Pacific Islands, Makira/Ulawa Province is one of the provinces of the Solomon Islands often referred to as the eastern province. The main part of the province is Makira Island and its capital is Kirakira.
The works are planned to start in early 2010
LXML Sepon Mod Squad Renewal
The Company is pleased to advise that McConnell Dowell has been awarded a further 12 month extension of the Mod Squad contract at the LXML Sepon Copper Gold Mine, Lao PDR by the Min Metals Group (MMG).
This award takes the Company into our 5th year of Mod Squad services where we are contracted to supply of Engineering Services, Labour and Equipment to the LXML Sepon Copper Gold Mine.
The copper gold mine produces 67,500 tonnes of copper per annum and 105,000 ounces of gold.

Practical Completion of Plant Accelerator

The Plant Accelerator Building at the University of Adelaide’s Waite Campus at Urrbrae, South Australia, will be a world leading plant growth and analysis building that will accelerate pure and applied science research both Australia-wide and internationally.
