Corio Quay North Wharf & Ship Loader Construction Award
The company is pleased to advise the McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd, in joint venture with Tenova SEMF, have been awarded the design and construction contract for a new woodchip loader and berth at Corio Quay by Geelong Port Pty Ltd.
The existing ship loader is reaching the end of its useful life with a maximum vessel length capacity of 209 m and its designed annual throughput is 600,000 tonnes. The new facility will increase the capacity of the berth 
Bridgewater Bridge Project Award
MacDow has been awarded the contract for the refurbishment of the Bridgewater Bridge in Tasmania by the Department of Infrastructure, Energy & Resources (DIER).
The project includes the refurbishment of the mechanical system used to open and close the bridge, as well as the overall refurbishment of the structural support and electrical systems. The work also includes the repainting of the under structure of the bridge.
The work involves some intricate mechanical installations which will have to be carried out with minimal disruptions to the traffic flow on the bridge. Project planning commences immediately with site mobilisation expected in October.

Ambuklao & Binga Hydropower Plants Civil Works, Philippines, Award
We are pleased to announce that McConnell Dowell Philippines Inc has been awarded the contract for civil works associated with the refurbishment of the Ambuklao and Binga Hydropower plants.
The two plants, located near Baguio City in the Philippines, were commissioned over 40 years ago and have been severely compromised by major siltation and volcanic activity. The scope of works consists of the design and construction, material supply, plant and labour of two additional iron ore export berths at Harriet Point (Berths G and H) inside the harbour at Port Hedland, Western Australia. Mobilisation to site is expected to commence in March 2009.

Jakarta Tank Terminal project
The Company is pleased to announce the successful completion of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) works at Tanjung Priok, Indonesia on 14 February 2009 for PT Jakarta Tanker Terminal, a joint venture between Vopak and AKR.
During the 11-hour pull back operation a 552 m long, 363 t pipe bundle consisting of nine steel and HDPE pipes ranging in diameter from 6 to 16 inches was pulled approximately 31 m below the sea bed.
Adelaide Desalination Preferred Bidder
The Company is pleased to advise that the AdelaideAqua consortium, which includes McConnell Dowell, has been named by South Australian Premier Mike Rann as the preferred bidder for construction of Adelaide’s new 50-gigalitre desalination plant to be built at Port Stanvac.
The AdelaideAqua consortium companies comprise Australian-based McConnell Dowell, Spanish firm Acciona Agua, Abigroup and United Utilities. Together they will design, build, operate and maintain the plant for 20 years for South Australia Water.

The units, each with a final weight of 333 tons excluding diverter, are destined for Intergrated Refinery & Petrochemical Complex Public Company’s (IRPC) Combined Heat & Power Plant (CHP) project.
