Marina Bay Sands Safety Achievement
The Marina Bay Sands project team in Singapore has achieved 500,000 man-hours without lost time injury.
This is a major milestone for a Civil & Marine project in Singapore and even more significant due to the challenging nature of the work site which includes limited working areas and numerous interface issues with other contractors across all work fronts.
To date the team have completed three deck and events plaza phases of the project and are now constructing the innovative and complex Crystal Pavilion Works which involves constructing two very large circular cofferdams and two complex and confined space reinforced concrete buildings over 24 m high within these cofferdams, all on an accelerated
Komo Airfield, PNG, Contract Award
The Company is pleased to announce that MCJV, a joint venture between McConnell Dowell and Consolidated Contractors, has been awarded the contract to procure and construct the Komo Airfield in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Komo, which is located approximately 10 km south east of the Hydes Gas Conditioning Plant (HGCP) and the future Juha developments, has been selected as the site for the project airport to support the PNG LNG project which will develop gas and liquid hydrocarbon resources located in the southern highlands of Papua New Guinea. PT BlueScope Steel Civil Works Project Award
The Company is pleased to advise that PT BlueScope Steel Indonesia has awarded PT McConnell Dowell Indonesia (PT MDI) the civil foundations package at their Cilegon plant, Indonesia.
The works form part of BlueScope Steel's second metallic coating line expansion to take overall capacity from its current production of 140,000 tonnes per annum to 265,000 tonnes per annum of metallic coated and painted steel products.
The Company is pleased to have won a further contract from BlueScope Steel, a valued customer, who the company has constructed various building, civil and mechanical packages over the last 17 years at their facilities in Indonesia, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.

Completion of URA Waterfront Promenade
The Company is pleased to advise project completion of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Waterfront Promenade Marine Structures at Marina Bay.
The Marine Structures scope comprised a 250m long 12m wide Marine Boardwalk, with 32m long x 5m wide Piles less Pontoon. The project poured 1300m3 of pre-cast concrete, 700m3 of Insitu concrete and used 3000m pf Steel Pipe Pile.
The URA initiated the project as a “Park in the City”, with the emphasis on being an aesthetically pleasing feature in the heart of Singapore’s CBD. Further to the usual civil and structural challenges of the project was the additional requirement of “Architectural Intent”.

The Company is pleased to advise that the Water Delivery Alliance (McConnell Dowell, Bovis Lend Lease, Kellogg Brown and Root, Worley Parsons, Environmental Resource Management and Sydney Water) has won the 2010 CCF Earth Awards New South Wales Division for Excellence in Civil Construction. Awards were announced on Friday, June 25 at the NSW CCF Branch Dinner.
The CCF Earth Awards are Australia’s premier civil construction industry awards, and recognise contractors who display excellence in construction techniques, environmental management and project management. Each Branch holds State Awards, the winners of which are then in contention for the National Award, announced later this year.

Techport Australia Common User Facility wins South Australian CCF Earth Award
A joint venture between McConnell Dowell and Built Environs has received a prestigious Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) South Australian Earth Award for its work on the Techport Australia Common User Facility (CUF) on the Port River at Osborne, South Australia.
The McConnell Dowell Built Environs joint venture (MBDE JV) completed construction of the approximate $260 million CUF in December 2009 – on budget and on schedule.
The completed facility supports shipbuilding and maintenance company ASC in delivering the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD), with the capability to support other major shipbuilding and repair opportunities.

The Company is pleased to advise that the North Melbourne Station Upgrade has won the Category 4 division (projects valued between $20m and $75m) at the 2010 Victorian CCF Earth Awards for Excellence in Civil Construction. Awards were announced on Friday, August 20 at the Victorian CCF Branch Dinner.
The CCF Earth Awards are Australia’s premier civil construction industry awards, and recognise contractors who display excellence in construction techniques, environmental management and project management.

Pilbara Iron Ore Infrastructure - Phase A & B
Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) awarded McConnell Dowell the design and construct (D&C) contract for the Pilbara Iron Ore Infrastructure Project at Port Hedland in Western Australia. FMG is positioning itself as the third major iron ore producer in Australia.
MacDow's scope of work included a load-out berth, a lay-by berth and navigation aids. The load-out berth comprises a 100 m long approach jetty complete with roadway and elevated conveyor trusses; a transfer station platform with wharf conveyor, drive and belt change-out areas; and a wharf structure to supports the shiploader. The wharf includes shiploader rails; six independent berthing dolphins including fenders and quick release mooring hooks and controls; and trafficable concrete

The Company is pleased to announce that Baltec Inlet & Exhaust Systems Pty Ltd Australia has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors Thai Ltd a contract for the fabrication of one GE frame 6B Gas Turbine Exhaust Systems and 5 GE Frame 6B Gas Turbines.
The units, each with a final weight of 333 tons excluding diverter, are destined for Intergrated Refinery & Petrochemical Complex Public Company’s (IRPC) Combined Heat & Power Plant (CHP) project.

Built Environs has received two Master Builders Association Excellence awards in South Australia.
Clements Gap Windfarm took the award in Category 11 - Excellence in Civil Construction.
The Adelaide Showground Goyder Pavilion work was also recognised with a commendation in Category 6 - Excellence in a Commercial / Industrial building $20 m - $50 m.

Meander Dam Concrete Award
McConnell Dowell is pleased to announce that McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd was awarded the 2009 Award for Excellence in Concrete in the Engineering Projects category by the Concrete Institute of Australia for work on the Meander Dam project in Tasmania.
The award recognised the functional, aesthetic and economic worth of the project with particular emphasis on the appropriateness of concrete construction to the purpose of the structure.

Sino Iron Project Marine Works Contract Award
The Company is pleased to advise that Sino Iron Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Hong Kong listed Citic Pacific Ltd, has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd a contract for the construction of marine facilities associated with their Sino Iron Project. Citic Pacific Mining Management Pty Ltd. is acting as the principal’s representative.
The Sino Iron Project, located at Cape Preston, approximately 1,500 km north of Perth, involves the establishment of an iron ore mine and related facilities, including marine loading and unloading facilities. McConnell Dowell’s works consist of four separable portions:
Installation of caissons for service wharf, construction of a module offload facility and installation of a desalination seawater intake;

SA Police Headquarters Contract Award
The Company is pleased to announce that Built Environs Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the new South Australian Police (SAPOL) headquarters in Adelaide by Commercial & General.
The 10-storey concrete building (including basement) is being designed to achieve a five star Greenstar rating - including the use of natural energy for a healthy working environment - and will feature an open plan office space, curtain wall glazing and extra security features, including special ballistic bullet-proof glass.
Built Environs will construct the building while maintaining emergency vehicle access to the rear of the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service facility on Wakefield Street.

Completion of CUF Project Marine Portion, South Australia
The Company is pleased to announce the practical completion of the marine portion of the Common User Facility Project.
The CUF project forms part of Techport Australia – the country's premier naval industry hub being developed at Osborne, South Australia. The facility will support Australian Submarine Corporation to deliver the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD) and attract other shipbuilding and repair opportunities.
The Common User Facility consists of three key areas, including the now-complete Marine works encompassing a wharf 213 m long and 25 m wide, and dredged access to the Port River shipping channel.

SRWP Project Wins ACEA Award
The Company is pleased to announce that the Southern Regional Water Pipeline Alliance has won a Gold Award in the transport and civil infrastructure category of the 2009 Association of Consulting Engineers Australia (ACEA) Awards for Excellence for its work on the South East Queensland Water Grid Interconnection pipeline system.
ACEA said “Quality and innovative engineering and management services played a key role in the successful delivery of a massive and complex project which is of critical benefit to communities in South East Queensland. The project clearly demonstrated the major benefits achieved by a highly integrated and successful alliance team.”
The South East Queensland Water Grid consists of 161 km
