Adelaide Desalination Preferred Bidder

The Company is pleased to advise that the AdelaideAqua consortium, which includes McConnell Dowell, has been named by South Australian Premier Mike Rann as the preferred bidder for construction of Adelaide’s new 50-gigalitre desalination plant to be built at Port Stanvac. The AdelaideAqua consortium companies comprise Australian-based McConnell Dowell, Spanish firm Acciona Agua, Abigroup and United Utilities. Together they will design, build, operate and maintain the plant for 20 years for South Australia Water.

From Bridge to Underpass

The Department for Transport, Energy & Infrastructure of South Australia (DTEI) awarded McConnell Dowell an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract for the replacement of the dilapidated Bakewell Bridge with an underpass in Adelaide, South Australia. Used by 25,000 cars per day, the 80 year old bridge formed a vital arterial into Adelaide's CBD. Working with DTEI on South Australia's first ECI project, the team developed and assessed a number of configurations to find a solution that best balanced community, technical and cost parameters.  The selected option includes two traffic lanes in each direction separated by a median; on-road bicycle lanes on each side of the road; and a wide shared-use path

Common User Facility Project

McConnell Dowell, in joint venture with our subsidiary Built Environs, was selected by DefenceSA to deliver the Common User Facility (CUF) project. The CUF project forms part of Techport Australia – the country's premier naval industry hub being developed at Osborne, South Australia.  The facility will support Australian Submarine Corporation to deliver the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD) and attract other shipbuilding and repair opportunities.

Adelaide Desalination Transfer Pipeline Project Award

The Company is pleased to announce that the South Australia Water Corporation (SA Water) has awarded the Adelaide Desalination Transfer Pipeline Project to McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd in joint venture with Built Environs Pty Ltd. This significant award is the culmination of an extensive pre-qualification and early contractor involvement (ECI) process. Fabrication

McConnell Dowell's Batam Facility is the company's key fabrication yard in South East Asia.  Established in 1998, the facility covers 15 hectares and is strategically located 20 km from Singapore. Located in a trade free zone to cater for export fabrication, the facility supplies Australian, Pacific, South East Asian and Middle Eastern clients. The site has open water frontage and a draft of five metres for shipping and barge load-out.  The facility operates to international quality, safety and environmental standards and is staffed with a skilled Indonesian workforce which is supervised by an expatriate management team. Built Environs has received two Master Builders Association Excellence awards in South Australia. Clements Gap Windfarm took the award in Category 11 - Excellence in Civil Construction. Oiltanking Jetties, Merak, Project Milestone

The Company is pleased to advise the first berthing of a vessel at Oiltanking’s new Merak Jetty, the first independent deep water terminal built in Indonesia. Singapore International Cruise Terminal

The Company is pleased to advise that McConnell Dowell South East Asia Pte Ltd, in joint venture with Penta Ocean and Toa Corporation, has been awarded the Singapore International Cruise Terminal by JTC on behalf of the Singapore Tourism Board. The works include design and construction of two new berths, terminal deck, car park deck, mooring dolphins, an 800 m long current training wall, dredging for navigation passage and land reclamation, road access, services and miscellaneous ancillary works. Sydney Desalination Plant Distribution Network Project- Project Milestone

The Company is pleased to advise that the Water Delivery Alliance which includes Sydney Water, McConnell Dowell, Bovis Lend Lease, KBR, Worley Parsons and Environmental Resource Management, has successfully reached three significant milestones for the Sydney Desalination Plant Distribution Network project. On 26 August 2009 the team successfully completed pipelaying across Botany Bay which included world first tandem laying of twin 1,422 mm diameter pipes 7,015m across Botany Bay from Kyeemagh to Silver Beach at Kurnell. SA Police Headquarters Contract Award

The Company is pleased to announce that Built Environs Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the new South Australian Police (SAPOL) headquarters in Adelaide by Commercial & General. The 10-storey concrete building (including basement) is being designed to achieve a five star Greenstar rating - including the use of natural energy for a healthy working environment - and will feature an open plan office space, curtain wall glazing and extra security features, including special ballistic bullet-proof glass. Completion of CUF Project Marine Portion, South Australia

TBMs Arrive at Adelaide Desal Plant

The Company is pleased to advise that on the 18th of November two $15 million 150 t tunnel boring machines (TBMs), ‘Cora the Bora’ and ‘Nessie’, arrived on site at the 100 GL Adelaide Desalination Plant project to begin work on the 1.5 km intake and 1 km outlet tunnels. The TBMs were named by local Hallett Cove Primary School grade 5 students Selena Spink and Ellie Jamieson, who won the “Name the Tunnel Boring Machine Competition” run by SA Water and AdelaideAqua. Practical Completion of Plant Accelerator

The Company is pleased to advise that Built Environs has achieved practical completion two weeks ahead of schedule on the Plant Accelerator project. The Plant Accelerator Building at the University of Adelaide’s Waite Campus at Urrbrae, South Australia, will be a world leading plant growth and analysis building that will accelerate pure and applied science research both Australia-wide and internationally. It is a two-level 4,485m2 crop research and plant breeding facility with the ability to process 160,000 plants a year in programs aimed at increasing drought and salinity tolerance in wheat and barley. Qatalum Smelter Plant Start-up Milestone

The Company is pleased to announce that the Qatalum Aluminium Smelter commenced its initial start-up operations on the 16th December 2009, two weeks ahead of the official milestone. The initial start-up utilises 22 Pots out of the total 352 Pots in the finished refinery. Ellenbrook Shopping Centre Project Award

The Company is pleased to announce Built Environs, as part of a Joint Venture with Perth Building Company, has been awarded the Ellenbrook Shopping Centre – Stage 2 in Western Australia. The project involves the development of approximately 8 hectares that will provide an additional 19,000m2 of lettable area (24,000m2 of GFA) including a Big W discount department store, a Coles supermarket, specialty stores and variety stores.
