Common User Facility Project

McConnell Dowell, in joint venture with our subsidiary Built Environs, was selected by DefenceSA to deliver the Common User facility (CUF) project. Fabrication

McConnell Dowell's Batam facility is the company's key fabrication yard in South East Asia.  Established in 1998, the facility covers 15 hectares and is strategically located 20 km from Singapore. Located in a trade free zone to cater for export fabrication, the facility supplies Australian, Pacific, South East Asian and Middle Eastern clients. The site has open water frontage and a draft of five metres for shipping and barge load-out.  The facility operates to international quality, safety and environmental standards and is staffed with a skilled Indonesian workforce which is supervised by an expatriate management team. Completion of CUF Project Marine Portion, South Australia

Techport Australia Common User Facility wins South Australian CCF Earth Award

A joint venture between McConnell Dowell and Built Environs has received a prestigious Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) South Australian Earth Award for its work on the Techport Australia Common User facility (CUF) on the Port River at Osborne, South Australia. The McConnell Dowell Built Environs joint venture (MBDE JV) completed construction of the approximate $260 million CUF in December 2009 – on budget and on schedule. The completed facility supports shipbuilding and maintenance company ASC in delivering the Royal Australian Navy’s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD), with the capability to support other major shipbuilding and repair opportunities. Pilbara Iron Ore Infrastructure - Phase A & B

Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) awarded McConnell Dowell the design and construct (D&C) contract for the Pilbara Iron Ore Infrastructure Project at Port Hedland in Western Australia. FMG is positioning itself as the third major iron ore producer in Australia. MacDow's scope of work included a load-out berth, a lay-by berth and navigation aids. The load-out berth comprises a 100 m long approach jetty complete with roadway and elevated conveyor trusses; a transfer station platform with wharf conveyor, drive and belt change-out areas; and a wharf structure to supports the shiploader. The wharf includes shiploader rails; six independent berthing dolphins including fenders and quick release mooring hooks and controls; and trafficable concrete

Helios Bulk Liquid Storage

Helios Terminals Corporation awarded McConnell Dowell an engineer, procure and construct (EPC) contract for mechanical and civil works associated with their new liquid storage and blending facility on Jurong Island. MacDow procured and constructed tank foundations; pipe racks; bund walls; valve and pump manifold; piping; loading arms; jetty topsides; and other facilities including offices. Corio Quay North Wharf & Ship Loader Construction Award

The company is pleased to advise the McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd, in joint venture with Tenova SEMF, have been awarded the design and construction contract for a new woodchip loader and berth at Corio Quay by Geelong Port Pty Ltd. The existing ship loader is reaching the end of its useful life with a maximum vessel length capacity of 209 m and its designed annual throughput is 600,000 tonnes. Jakarta Tank Terminal project

The Company is pleased to announce the successful completion of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) works at Tanjung Priok, Indonesia on 14 February 2009 for PT Jakarta Tanker Terminal, a joint venture between Vopak and AKR. During the 11-hour pull back operation a 552 m long, 363 t pipe bundle consisting of nine steel and HDPE pipes ranging in diameter from 6 to 16 inches was pulled approximately 31 m below the sea bed.

RGP5 Safety Award

The FAST JV has awarded the first of their Monthly Safety Awards to McConnell Dowell. The Safety Awards take into account all contractors working on RGP 5 (Rapid Growth Project 5 Marine Works) Port Development works for BHP Billiton Iron Ore. The safety crew flag was presented by Steve Carter, Marine Superintendent FAST JV to Hale Bray, Safety Representative and the Temporary Construction Load Out facility work group (TCLOF). This safety award was awarded in recognition for continued safety performance and effort that the TCLOF team has shown towards safety. Oiltanking Jetties, Merak, Project Milestone

The Company is pleased to advise the first berthing of a vessel at Oiltanking’s new Merak Jetty, the first independent deep water terminal built in Indonesia. Singapore International Cruise Terminal

The Company is pleased to advise that McConnell Dowell South East Asia Pte Ltd, in joint venture with Penta Ocean and Toa Corporation, has been awarded the Singapore International Cruise Terminal by JTC on behalf of the Singapore Tourism Board. The works include design and construction of two new berths, terminal deck, car park deck, mooring dolphins, an 800 m long current training wall, dredging for navigation passage and land reclamation, road access, services and miscellaneous ancillary works. Braemar 3 Gas Pipeline - Project Award

The Company is pleased to advise the McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd have been selected by ERM as the preferred ECI contractor for the Braemar 3 gas pipeline in Queensland, Australia.The scope includes the design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing and pre-commissioning of a 16’’ x X70 pipeline and its associated facilities.  The Braemar 3 pipeline will be tied in at the ’Kenya’ facility and will run generally south toward the New South Wales border for 155 km and connect to a new gas fired power plant.ERM intends to work with Macdow in an Early Contractor Involvement process with the aim of forming an EPC Contract by October 1, 2009.

Northern Pipeline Interconnector Stage 2 – Queensland

Sino Iron Project Marine Works Contract Award

SA Police Headquarters Contract Award

The Company is pleased to announce that Built Environs Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the new South Australian Police (SAPOL) headquarters in Adelaide by Commercial & General. The 10-storey concrete building (including basement) is being designed to achieve a five star Greenstar rating - including the use of natural energy for a healthy working environment - and will feature an open plan office space, curtain wall glazing and extra security features, including special ballistic bullet-proof glass. Bogong Hydro Electric Scheme Opens

Practical Completion of Plant Accelerator

The Company is pleased to advise that Built Environs has achieved practical completion two weeks ahead of schedule on the Plant Accelerator project. The Plant Accelerator Building at the University of Adelaide’s Waite Campus at Urrbrae, South Australia, will be a world leading plant growth and analysis building that will accelerate pure and applied science research both Australia-wide and internationally. Qatalum Smelter Plant Start-up Milestone

The Company is pleased to announce that the Qatalum Aluminium Smelter commenced its initial start-up operations on the 16th December 2009, two weeks ahead of the official milestone.
