The Company is pleased to advise that the Water Delivery Alliance (McConnell Dowell, Bovis Lend Lease, Kellogg Brown and Root, Worley Parsons, Environmental Resource Management and Sydney Water) has won the 2010 CCF Earth Awards New South Wales Division for Excellence in Civil Construction. Awards were announced on Friday, June 25 at the NSW CCF Branch Dinner.

The CCF Earth Awards are Australia’s premier civil construction industry awards, and recognise contractors who display excellence in construction techniques, environmental management and project management. Each Branch holds State Awards, the winners of which are then in contention for the National Award, announced later this year.

The Water Delivery Alliance was the winner in Category 5 (project value of more than $75 million) for the Sydney Desalination Pipeline Project.

The Alliance was responsible for the design, procurement and construction of the pipeline and pump station infrastructure which links Sydney's new desalination plant to the existing water grid. The 17 km long pipeline and 250 ML/d pump station infrastructure carries water from the plant at Kurnell to the City Tunnel at Erskineville. It traverses Kurnell, Botany Bay and passes through the inner urban areas of Kyeemagh, Tempe, St Peters, Alexandria and Erskineville. The size of the pipeline was designed to have a maximum output of 500 ML/d.

While the desalination plant was delivered via a conventional lump-sum contract, Sydney Water selected an alliance for the pipeline due to the technical, community and environmental risks involved.

McConnell Dowell congratulates all involved in the Water Delivery Alliance.
