BARWON RIVER BRIDGE AWARD

The Company is pleased to advise that VicRoads have awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd the contract for the Barwon River Bridge at Barwon Heads in Victoria.
The works include the reconstruction of the existing dual lane timber and concrete Barwon River Bridge for vehicular traffic and the construction of a contemporary architecturally designed pedestrian bridge adjacent.
Works will be undertaken in three stages:
Stage 1
The new pedestrian bridge will be constructed adjacent the existing vehicular bridge.
Stage 2
One lane of traffic will be diverted from the existing bridge onto the new pedestrian bridge. This half of the vehicular bridge will then be demolished; its timbers reclaimed and the lane reconstructed.
Stage 3
The remaining lane of traffic to the vehicular bridge will be diverted onto the new section. This section of the bridge will then be demolished and rebuilt using reclaimed timbers. Once complete all vehicular traffic will be re-diverted back onto the reconstructed bridge.
Works are scheduled to begin immediately to a 16 month schedule.
