The Company is pleased to announce the successful commission of the twin stormwater diversion pipes through the station box at the Beauty World Project in Singapore. These pipes are temporary works to divert an existing major stormwater culvert that runs through the middle of the Beauty World Station. With water now flowing through the pipes, this important step allows us to demolish the existing drain and proceed with Stage 3 excavation for the station box. The twin pipes are necessary to temporarily divert the flows of the existing box culvert. In another great milestone, the NNA Pipeline project has also just completed 500,000 man-hours LTI free, an exceptional safety achievement indicative of the dedication, planning and management of the project team to deliver this project safely. The Company is pleased to advise that the Whangarei District Council have awarded McConnell Dowell, in joint venture with Transfield Services, the contract for the construction of a new bridge over the Lower Hatea River in Whangarei, New Zealand.  Procured through an ECI process, the project includes bridge approaches over geotechnically challenging ground and a new 265 metre long Bascule Bridge spanning the River. This is an exciting achievement for the Company as the new bridge will be the first Bascule road bridge to be built in New Zealand in the last 50 years. The Company is pleased to announce that Baltec Inlet and Exhaust System Pty Ltd have awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors Thai Ltd a fabrication project for five Bypass Exhaust Systems for Daewoo E & C for their Oman Sur IPP Combined Cycle Power Plant Project. The scope of work consists of 2,000 tonnes of fabricated platework. The fabrication work will commence immediately with all units due to be completed by June 2012. 26 October 2011 The Company is pleased to advise that the Barwon Heads Bridge project was awarded the Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) Category 4 National Award at the 2011 Awards dinner presented to the team at the Gold Coast on Saturday night. The Company is pleased to announce that Electrix Ltd has been awarded the contract for the electrical refurbishment of the iconic ANZ Centre in Auckland. The scope of works for the project involves the refurbishment of 25 floors. These will be the new offices for a high profile tenant. The project has two main areas of work: · The major upgrade of the main riser, MSB’s and a new standby generation plant for a 100% backup power system; and · The complete refurbishment of 25 floors to the tenants design. State Water Corporation has awarded a contract to strengthen the southern training wall at Hume Dam to McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd. State Water program director Mel Jackson said a mass concrete buttress would be constructed against the southern training wall, downstream of the spillway. “Essentially the buttress will provide greater support to the embankment to enable it to better withstand extreme floods and earthquakes,” Mr Jackson said. The concrete buttress is the second stage of a $60 million program of works to improve the structure’s capacity to handle extreme events and to ensure compliance with contemporary best practice. The Company is pleased to announce an important milestone in McConnell Dowell (Aust) Pty Ltd’s involvement in the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (or ASKAP) radio telescope project. Leaving from Lonsdale, South Australia and beginning tomorrow, thirteen trucks will each carry a 15 metre hi-tech steel module to outback Western Australia. The modules will make up the control building of CSIRO’s ASKAP. ASKAP is currently being built at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory in remote Western Australia, and once built will help CSIRO and astronomers from around the world answer fundamental questions about our Universe. The Company is pleased to advise that the alliance agreement was signed in Christchurch on Thursday 22 September for the rebuild of Christchurch’s earthquake damaged infrastructure.
