The Company is pleased to advise that the North Melbourne Station Upgrade has won the Category 4 division (projects valued between $20m and $75m) at the 2010 Victorian CCF Earth Awards for Excellence in Civil Construction. Awards were announced on Friday, August 20 at the Victorian CCF Branch Dinner.
The CCF Earth Awards are Australia’s premier civil construction industry awards, and recognise contractors who display excellence in construction techniques, environmental management and project management.
The Department of Infrastructure together with Connex awarded McConnell Dowell the design and construct contract for the North Melbourne Railway Station Upgrade.
Construction included the new rail station building to provide improved amenity to commuters; a new concourse extending over the city end of the station, connecting a new entrance to all six platforms via lifts, escalators and stairs; new passenger information displays; canopies over platforms for weather protection; resurfaced platforms to improve safety and amenity; and additional closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to improve security.
The project now advances to the national awards, to be held in Canberra in October.
