JAKARTA TANK TERMINAL PROJECT
Indonesia
February 17, 2009
The Company is pleased to announce the successful completion of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) works at Tanjung Priok, Indonesia on 14 February 2009 for PT Jakarta Tanker Terminal, a joint venture between Vopak and AKR.
During the 11-hour pull back operation a 552 m long, 363 t pipe bundle consisting of nine steel and HDPE pipes ranging in diameter from 6 to 16 inches was pulled approximately 31 m below the sea bed.
A 300 t capacity HDD rig and 3 t pulling head was used to undertake the pull-back, creating a final reamed out HDD hole of 60”. Force commenced at 70 tonnes, peaked at 250 tonnes three quarters of the way through the pull, and dropped back down to 150 tonnes towards the end of the pull.
McConnell Dowell is simultaneously constructing a new 2-berth liquids unloading jetty for PT Jakarta Tanker Terminal as a separate second project. The newly completed HDD pipeline will link this new berth facility with PT Jakarta Tank Terminal’s existing tank farm.
