The Company is pleased to advise that Qatalum ( Qatar Aluminium Limited ) has awarded Dutco McConnell Dowell Qatar Ltd the contract for the clean-up, repair and mechanical completion of Frozen Electrolytic Pots.
The maintenance works are a result of a recent power outage at the smelter which requires an urgent clean-up and repair of the 444 shut down pots by 30th November 2010.
Dutco McConnell Dowell Qatar will respond to our client's schedule requirement with a rapid build up of resources that will peak at around 400 people, split into two shifts per day.
The maintenance work comprises the dismantling and removal of superstructure, pot cleaning, mounting and alignment of superstructure, repair and replacement of damaged equipment based on findings during the initial punch list inspection, plus additional works as directed.
The cost reimbursable contract was competitively tendered on an urgent basis, such that within one week from release of tender, tenders were reviewed, clarifications conducted and contract negotiations finalised.
Key drivers for the Client in assessing tenders were:
- Safe Execution of Work (Contractor Safety philosophy);
- High Progress Expectations (on time delivery); and
- Safe Execution Methods (previous experience in this work).
Dutco McConnell Dowell Qatar Ltd was able to provide the highest level of comfort to the Client on these issues, having carried out the original contract work ahead of schedule and with zero LTIs.
