ADELAIDE DESALINATION PREFERRED BIDDER

The Company is pleased to advise that the AdelaideAqua consortium, which includes McConnell Dowell, has been named by South Australian Premier Mike Rann as the preferred bidder for construction of Adelaide’s new 50-gigalitre desalination plant to be built at Port Stanvac.

The AdelaideAqua consortium companies comprise Australian-based McConnell Dowell, Spanish firm Acciona Agua, Abigroup and United Utilities. Together they will design, build, operate and maintain the plant for 20 years for South Australia Water.

The AdelaideAqua consortium has extensive desalination experience, construction, operational, environmental and social capability which was pivotal to being selected as preferred bidder. When completed, the Adelaide Desalination Project will deliver up to 50 billion litres of water each year, about a quarter of Adelaide’s water supply. The plant will deliver a climate independent water source, ensuring drinking water is available even in times of drought. It is expected the first water will be delivered from the plant in December 2010.

McConnell Dowell last month was awarded the desalination transfer pipeline in joint venture with its Adelaide based company Built Environs. The pipeline will link Adelaide’s desalination plant to its existing water supply.
