McConnell Dowell's Batam Facility is the company's key fabrication yard in South East Asia.
Established in 1998, the facility covers 15 hectares and is strategically located 20 km from Singapore. Located in a trade free zone to cater for export fabrication, the facility supplies Australian, Pacific, South East Asian and Middle Eastern clients. The site has open water frontage and a draft of five metres for shipping and barge load-out.
The facility operates to international quality, safety and environmental standards and is staffed with a skilled Indonesian workforce which is supervised by an expatriate management team. There are 1,200 employees. Services include fabrication and supply of steel structures, modules, pipe work, marine piles, and pre-cast concrete elements. On site facilities include automatic and semi-automatic welding; CNC plate cutting; auto blast machines; enclosed painting sheds and on-site medical facilities.
The facility has an overall annual fabrication capacity of 15,000 t of structural steel; 500,00 diameter inches of piping; and 15,000 m3 of precast concrete. Batam has provided support services on many of MacDow's signature projects including:
- Helios Bulk Blending Facility (Singapore): 1,400 t of structural steel and platforms; and 120,000 diameter inches of pipe spooling.
- Hamersley Iron Project (Western Australia): 1,500 t of temporary works; 1,800 t of structural steelwork and frames.
- Exxon Mobil SPT Project (Singapore): 6,000 tonne of structural steel and 152 km of pipe.
- Alcan Gove Project (Northern Territory): 22 precast concrete cooling tower modules measuring 16 m x 6 m x 6 m; weighing 270 t each; and assembled with all structural steel, platforms, handrails, mechanical and piping fixtures
The Batam site also houses MacDow's comprehensive South East Asian plant and equipment fleet.
The addition of our new fabrication facility in Thailand adds to our already significant fabrication capability. Specialising in the fabrication of structural steel, piping, mechanical and plate work for industrial, oil and gas and civil construction clients we are strategically placed to deliver throughout South East Asia, Australasia, New Zealand, The Pacific and the Middle East.
Our custom built 76,800 m2 Thai facility includes a 4,800 m2 workshop consisting of 20 m bays with full overhead cranes, an 800 m2 blast and paint shop and a 5,000 m2 hard stand area.
