Senior Design Engineer/Design Manager

MAJOR OBJECTIVES

  • Conformity of all engineering activities with Company standards, procedures and policies and with laws, regulations and industry standards.
  • Conformance to time schedules, budgets and performance criteria.
  • Suitable and efficient construction methods together with appropriate plant selection and temporary works solutions are available.
  • Improve competitiveness of the Company.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage and supervise external engineering consultants for projects and bids in accordance with Design Management Procedures.  
  • Develop appropriate construction methods together with appropriate plant selection and temporary work solutions.
  • Carry out temporary works designs in accordance with the appropriate requirements of the bids or projects.
  • Verify temporary works designs prepared by other engineers.
  • Prepare documentation and presentation material for prequalification’s, bids and projects.
  • Identify safety and environmental hazards that may arise during the fabrication, installation and use of temporary works.  Design the temporary works to reduce to as low as reasonably practicable such safety and environmental hazards.
  • Performs scheduling and planning functions for bidding and site activities.
  • Provide feedback to the project personnel on construction details.  Provide   drawing and technical documentation as required.
  • Specify inspection and testing requirements for temporary works fabrication and installation.
  • Prepare relevant Construction Execution Procedures (CEP’s) for project personnel and for submission to the Client.

ANCILLARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Direct and supervise other  engineers and CAD draftspersons as required in the performance of these roles and responsibilities.
  • Assistance with business development initiatives and client liaison as required.
  • Provides all activities in such a manner to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Any other duties as may be required by the Company.

COMPETENCIES

  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Member of Institution of Engineers, Australia (MIEAust).
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the construction industry with significant exposure to design, costing, estimating and planning.
  • Demonstrated capability in development of innovative concepts for solutions to technical, complex issues.
  • Competent understanding of Australian and International codes and standards and risk and contingency assessment.
  • Self-sufficient, requiring minimal supervision with focus on pragmatic, technically sound, acceptable results.
  • Strong oral and written presentation ability linked with sound relationship and integrity record.
  • Can lead, organise, and motivate others.
  • Competent in use of MS Office, Lotus Notes.
  • Working knowledge of engineering software eg Wallap, SpaceGass.
