Scholarships
The McConnell Dowell Scholarship Program was established to encourage creative and ambitious engineering students in the areas of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Construction Management with an exceptional opportunity to start planning their future career paths with a world class engineering, construction and maintenance company.
What does the McConnell Dowell Scholarship offer you?
- A financial award of $5,000 on entering your penultimate year of study.
- 12 weeks' vacation work experience.
- A further $5,000 financial award in your final year, subject to continuing to meet the selection criteria requirements.
- Pre-selection consideration for the McConnell Dowell Graduate intake at the completion of your degree.

Graduate ProgramMcConnell Dowell offers Scholarships at the following universities:
Monash University in Victoria
The Monash Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate third (3rd) year student enrolled in a single degree or an undergraduate fourth (4th) year student enrolled in a double degree in either Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Curtin University in Western Australia
The Curtin University Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate third (3rd) year student enrolled in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Queensland University of Technology
The McConnell Dowell Bursary is awarded to a third (3rd) year undergraduate student enrolled in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
Application Process
- The Universities will advertise the McConnell Dowell scholarships via their e-mails, website and notice boards etc.
- Your application is submitted via the University for collation and then forwarded to McConnell Dowell
- McConnell Dowell will organise and conduct interviews and select the successful applicant
- The Scholarship will be presented at an Awards Ceremony conducted by the University
Eligibility to apply for a McConnell Dowell Scholarship
To apply for a Scholarship you must:
- Remain enrolled full-time in either an Undergraduate Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management degree.
- Maintain a satisfactory standard of academic progress (Course Weighted Average of at least 70.00 and pass all units attempted).
- Undertake paid vacation employment for 12 weeks with McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd.
- Not already be in receipt of any additional scholarship/s.
Selection Criteria
The scholarship award is based on the following selection criteria where students should:
- Display good academic achievement in the nominated engineering program.
- Possess high level of communication and interpersonal skills.
- Display a strong work ethic.
- Be able to demonstrate initiative and a high degree of motivation.
- Want to pursue a career working on large scale, national and international projects in the construction industry.
- Be interested in a career which involves travel for work.
- Be prepared to undertake 12 weeks paid vacation work (between Years 3 & 4 or 4 & 5).
- Must be permanent residents of Australia or be prepared to become permanent residents.
In addition to the above criteria, McConnell Dowell will consider:
- The applicant's CV
- The letter of application particularly addressing the selection criteria
- Academic results
- Extra curricular pursuits
