MAJOR OBJECTIVES
- Responsible for the overall efficient and effective management of plant and equipment used on the project.
- Ensure that risk reduction controls are in place and regularly reviewed for safety, environmental and quality aspects of the project.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Applicable requirements of the Project Execution Plan are to be utilised in conjunction with the attached Safety and Environmental Responsibility Statement.
- Promote total job safety and environmental awareness by employees, subcontractors and all persons in the job vicinity and stress to all employees and subcontractors the importance senior management attaches to safe work practices and environmental protection.
- Ensuring that safe and environmentally acceptable working methods and practices are implemented and that plant and equipment is made available, properly operated and maintained, to enable operations to be carried out safely and without environmental harm.
- Promote and maintain a high standard of safety and environmental awareness, ensuring that hazards are identified, risks assessed and control measures planned and implemented in consultation with relevant employees.
- Ensure all employees are made aware of site hazards and the methods to be implemented to control them.
- Responsibility for the maintenance and acquisition of adequate plant and equipment for the project. Sourcing of plant from external sources when internal plant is inadequate to perform project duties. Monitoring of internal and external plant usage on all construction sites. Plant mobilisation and demobilisation for the project. Preparation of the plant and equipment register.
- Organise, coordinate and direct plant maintenance activities in accordance with construction schedules so as to complete the works on time and within budget whilst constantly ensuring that planning, safety, environmental and quality requirements are met.
- Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with the requirements of the relevant specifications, codes and standards, which form part of the contract.
- Ensure that all personnel are inducted and trained in their roles and responsibilities and are competent to perform the duties allocated to them.
- Monitor and review the performance of plant, labour and subcontractors to ensure production targets are met or bettered and take appropriate action as necessary.
ANCILLARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensure that employee discipline is appropriately managed.
- Ensure timely receipt of supervisory reports for progress monitoring and other site performance information as requested by the Construction Manager.
- Ordering/purchasing of minor materials as required.
- Utilisation of planned resources in an efficient manner.
- Promotion of a professional image of the Company’s operations and maintenance of a harmonious relationship with the Client and/or his/her representative in the execution of the contract.
- Any other duties as may be required by the Company.
COMPETENCIES
- Trades qualification relevant to the plant and equipment maintenance.
- Minimum of five years experience relevant to the designated project and having previously held a Plant Manager or Plant Supervisor position.
- Sound working knowledge of HS&E requirements and implementing of same.
- Strong and proven ability to lead, direct and manage groups of diverse employees.
- Exceptional vigour and energy accompanied by good oral and written communication skills.
