Position Description - General Superintendents
MAJOR OBJECTIVES
- Responsible for the efficient and effective coordination of field operations.
- Adherence to the McConnell Dowell Integrated Management System and Project Execution Plan.
- Ensure that risk reduction controls are in place and regularly reviewed for safety, environmental and quality aspects of the project.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Promote total job safety and environmental awareness by employees, subcontractors and all persons in the job vicinity and stress to all employees and subcontractors the importance senior management attaches to safe work practices and environmental protection.
- Ensure that safe and environmentally acceptable working methods and practices are implemented and that plant and equipment is made available, properly operated and maintained, to enable operations to be carried out safely and without environmental harm.
- Ensure that hazards are identified, risks assessed and control measures planned and implemented in consultation with relevant employees.
- Monitor and review the performance of plant, labour and subcontractors to ensure production targets are met or bettered and take appropriate action as necessary.
- Organise, coordinate and direct construction activities in accordance with construction schedules so as to complete the works on time and within budget whilst constantly ensuring that planning, safety, environmental and quality requirements are met.
- Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with the requirements of the relevant specifications, codes and standards, which form part of the contract.
- Promptly advise management of any issues that could be variations to the contract and keep accurate records of such issues.
- Ensure that all personnel are inducted and trained in their roles and responsibilities and are competent to perform the duties allocated to them.
- Assess and allocate priorities as necessary.
ANCILLARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensure that employee discipline is appropriately managed.
- Ensure timely receipt of supervisory reports for progress monitoring and other site performance information as requested by site management.
- Requisition of minor materials and consumables as required.
- Utilisation of planned resources in an efficient manner.
- Promotion of a professional image of the Company’s operations and maintenance of a harmonious relationship with the Client and/or his/her representative in the execution of the contract.
- Any other duties as may be required by the Company.
COMPETENCIES
- Trades qualification relevant to the construction, building or manufacturing industries.
- Minimum of five years experience relevant to the designated project and having previously held a position of Supervisor.
- Sound working knowledge of HS&E requirements and implementing of same.
- Strong and proven ability to lead, direct and manage groups of diverse employees.
- Exceptional vigour and energy accompanied by good oral and written communication skills.
